Sustainability, recycling of materials, circularity are central themes for textile industry, and they cover as a fil rouge the whole 56th Filo edition.
The encounter between Filo and Cittadellarte Fashion B.E.S.T., with its last project, appears nearly unavoidable, if we consider the common roots – Biella’s territory – and the common aims – a more sustainable, eco-friendly, and focused on people textile industry, able to produce even more beautiful materials and garments. This encounter happens in two different moments.
For the 56th edition of Filo, Cittadellarte has indeed created a big installation made in collaboration with a company from Biella’s territory – Vimar 1991: a suspended Terzo Paradiso, realised by hanging the yarns of Vimar 1991. By positioning itself in the space, the installation requires the active participation and implication of the spectator. Indeed, it acquires sense only if the spectator crosses it and puts in communication the different special cells (in-out from the booth, Lenzing-Vimar 1991, Il Terzo Paradiso – collective of Fashion B.E.S.T. and the quadro capo-spalla by Tiziano Guardini). As every transition space, it comes to life thanks to spectators moving in it.
The second encounter between Filo and Cittadellarte occurs in the scope of ‘Dialoghi di Confronto’. On the 30th of September at 2 p.m., Olga Pirazzi, Responsible for Sustainable Fashion Department of Cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto, will conduct a debate together with some fashion designers who are part of Cittadellarte Fashion B.E.S.T. platform – among others, Bav Tailor and Marcello Pipitone – on the themes related to Awake! project. The debate is part of ‘Dialoghi di Confronto’ (https://filo.it/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Dialoghi-di-confronto-2.pdf) which take place in the Networking Area of the Exhibition.
Awake! project is realised through a performance where fashion, design and sustainability are melted together, aiming at literally ‘waking up’ the spectator regarding the theme of environmental sustainability and fashion system, carried out in a framework of an exceptional industrial archaeology: Fondazione Pistoletto Biella.
Cittadellarte Fashion B.E.S.T. – the acronym for Better Ethical Sustainable Think-Tank – is an operational lab that, since 2009, has been dedicated to the development of bio-ethics sustainability in textile industry. The lab, attended by selected young stylists, is focused on three constituent elements: the legacy of production excellence of Biella’s territory which is acknowledged worldwide; artistic creativity, essential component of Cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto; the commitment for a change in society in a responsible and sustainable sense.
We wait for you at the 56th edition of Filo on the 29th and 30th of September 2021 at MiCo – Milan Convention Centre!
