Filo60: Back to the Future with “ancient” fibers
PRESS RELEASE
It is a very particular case history that is proposed by Giottoindustrial Networking and Suspi to the public of Filo: the industrial group and the Swiss University have been commissioned by three large humanitarian organizations – ICRC, WFP and UNHCR – to find an alternative to the polypropylene bags used for the distribution of food and other commodities to vulnerable and marginalised communities in the world.
Clemente Bottani and Massimo Bergamasco of Giottoindustrial Networking SA and Anna Rita De Corso of Supsi (Scuola Universitaria Professionale della Svizzera Italiana) will talk about it in the talk entitled: “Back to the future. The technical functionalization of ‘ancient’ fibres”, as part of the “Dialoghi di Confronto” of the 60th edition of Filo.
The appointment is at Allianz MiCo-Milan, Filo’s Networking Area
Wednesday 20 September 2023, at 3.30 pm
The project has developed a highly innovative jute- based material which, thanks to specific fiber Layer-by-Layer treatment can reach the ambitious technical performances required for this application without losing the positive sustainable feature of the base material.
The Giottoindustrial Networking- Supsi project proofs that the so called “ancient” natural fibers, which were only considered suitable for basic applications, have a promising future also for more demanding application fields (home textiles, technical textiles) bringing a clear advantage in terms of negative impact onto our fragile environment.
The 60th edition of Filo takes place on 20 and 21 September 2023 at Allianz MiCo – Milan (via Gattamelata 5).
