FILMAR LAUNCHES ITS DIGITAL PRODUCT PASSPORT

A digital passport to ensure the traceability of its yarns. This is, in order of time, the latest initiative launched by Filmar, a company located in Franciacorta, in the province of Brescia, leader in the textile industry since 1958. The company, which employs about 120 people at its plant, produces and finishes high-quality cotton yarns, promoting an industrial model that respects the environment and the health of workers and consumers.

Over the years, Filmar’s philosophy has originated a series of inclusive and innovative projects supported in collaboration with its subsidiary Filmar Nile Textile, which is based near Alexandria, Egypt.
The digital passport is a key tool for the company’s cutting-edge mission. It illustrates the whole history and supply chain of the product. By scanning a simple QR code, people can access information such as the origin of the cotton; the locations and the methods of production, who made it, together with the journey of the yarn. Moreover, it displays the environmental impacts of each step and process according to Product Environmental Footprint guidelines, with 19 metrics measuring the effects on terrestrial and human ecosystems. The Passport, developed by the start-up Sustainable Brand Platform, was designed specifically for some of our products to offer our customers and consumers the transparency and traceability required by the EU, which has established a digital passport for textile products sold in the European market included in the Circular Textile Strategy.
For Filmar, the digital passport is not only a response to the demands of the legislator, but first and foremost it is a pivotal monitoring tool for the continuous improvement of activities with the aim of reducing its environmental impact. With this vision the company aims to create a supply chain that is more responsible in both environmental and social terms, capable of creating value for all stakeholders, including brands that can use real data to educate their customers on how to make more sustainable choices.
