FILMAR AND EGYPTIAN COTTON: GROWING COLLABORATION
Every October the Egyptian cotton harvest takes place, carried out manually by farmers to preserve its quality and avoid the use of harmful chemicals. For Filmar it was an opportunity to further strengthen its commitment to supporting Egyptian cotton and its sustainability, and to take stock of the progress of adopting the Better Cotton principles in Egypt.
With the Cottonforlife program, Filmar actively supports responsible cultivation practices. As happens in the plantations of Giza 92 in Damietta, where cotton is grown following the principles and criteria of Better Cotton. Thanks to the support of the Cottonforlife program and the partnership with the Cotton Egypt Association, the farmers who adhere to the BC principles today are 7 thousand, and according to forecasts there will be 25 thousand by 2025. The expansion of these practices also depends on the demand for Better Cotton by brands and retailers. And this is why various international actors were involved in meetings in Cairo, where transparency and traceability of supply chains were discussed. While Filmar is creating digital ID cards that tell both the supply chain and the impact of the company’s products.
