Plastic turns into yarn

Example of this are two interesting experiences in Biella and Como, which involve textile businesses.

In Biella, the Manifattura Filippo Russo – a former winding mill – has now become an excellence waste collection centre. Specifically, this plastic waste from companies is ground to granules, which become the raw material for the production of new plastic objects.

In Como attempts are made with Pet recycling – water plastic bottles – to become material for fabric production. The project actor is “Il Filo d’Oro”, a network of textile companies founded by five entrepreneurs, Graziano Brenna, Ambrogio Taborelli and Sandro Tessuto from Como, Andrea Belli from Prato and Andrea Ongetta from Treviso.

“Il Filo d’Oro was born out of our desire of making system, the passion for our work, out of the creativity and style of five textile entrepreneurs – underlines Graziano Brenna – Every single step of the production chain undergoes a certified control, and the industrial chain covers the entire processing cycle. An important role in the functional activities is played by the chemical laboratory, committed to research and innovation. And it’s right from here, and following the market demands, that we started working also on the production of yarns obtained by recycling the Pet”.
