Egyptian farmers will have the opportunity to grow cotton according to sustainability standards and criteria of Better Cotton Programme, the certification system on plantations’ sustainability which involves 23 countries and 30% of the global cotton production. The protagonist of the Egyptian initiative is Filmar, with the project Cottonforlife.
Better Cotton Programme efficiently connects cotton’s supply and demand, thanks to the participation of the greatest international brands and retailers that provide for a definite demand, through their yearly purchase commitments, for farmers who grow cotton according to sustainability criteria and principles. The aim of the program is providing training and learning opportunities for farmers to adopt more sustainable production practices from an environmental, social and economic point of view.
Marco Mazoli, President and CEO of Filmar, declared: ‘We are proud of being an active part of this process, thanks to the Cottonforlife initiative. We will continue to support Egyptian farmers in improving their practices in order to ensure to our clients and consumers’ market quality and both credible and measurable sustainability standards’.
