During the talk “RadiciGroup, sustainable solutions for a circular textile supply chain”, Francesca Previtali (marketing and communication) and Loris Maestri (R&D product development engineer) explained to the audience of Filo’s “Dialoghi di confront” how innovation has allowed RadiciGroup to expand, over the years, in different sectors, bringing competitive and cutting-edge products and solutions to the market. TENCEL, “INGREDIENT” FOR INNOVATIVE TEXTILES

At the heart of innovation in the textile field are materials that are the result of careful research, often studied to respond to precise market demands, and then interpreted by companies according to their needs.
The talk “Tencel™ – A good “Ingredient” for Textiles” brought to Filo’s “Dialoghi di Confronto” a clear example of the design process and the possible uses of innovative fibers. In a dialogue with Olga Pirazzi (Cittadellarte/Fondazione Pistoletto), Carlo Covini, BD Manager Italy & Switzerland – Lenzing AG, explained how Tencel™ fiber is an “ingredient”, which is interpreted in different ways through the knowledge of spinners and then weavers and knitters, capable of emphasizing its botanical origin, biodegradability, performance and silkiness.

AGAINST GREENWASHING: HOW TO COMMUNICATE SUSTAINABILITY

Filo’s “Dialoghi di Confronto” are designed to address the most topical issues in the textile-clothing sector. This was demonstrated once again by the talk “Greenwashing: let’s learn to communicate our values!”, led with passion by Giusy Bettoni, CEO of C.LA.S.S. As Giusy Bettoni herself affirmed during the meeting (which we reproduce in full here): “The yarn is the true starting point of the entire fashion system. Communicating its real sustainability is the weapon against the scourge of greenwashing and misinformation but also the winning tool for gaining an effective competitive advantage in the market”.

ROAD TO ZERO FOR CHEMICALS

The management of chemicals is an important innovation in the production processes of the textile industry. With the “Road to Zero” program, ZHDC Foundation offers companies guidelines designed to reduce their chemical impact, in order to protect the environment and consumers and consequently also improve product quality. The talk “ZDHC Roadmap to Zero: implementation and innovation” of the “Dialoghi di Confronto” of Filo n. 58 – which we reproduce here – retraces the path taken in this area by two leading companies in the textile sector, Albini Group and Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia. Coordinating the debate is Elisa Gavazza of ZDHC Foundation.

THE LONG ROAD OF REGENERATED WOOL

“The long road of regenerated wool” is the intriguing title of one of the “Dialoghi di Confronto” which took place in the Networking Area of the 58th edition of Filo and which we reproduce here in full.
Sauro Guerri, vice president of the Italian Wool Trade Association, led the Filo audience through the problems and successes of a complex manufacturing process, underlining how “in the search for greater sustainability, it is crucial to act sensibly and not dismantle century-old traditions and methods, without having first thought of how to replace them”.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL WEAR: NEXTGEN FASHION AT FILO

One of the “Dialoghi di Confronto” of the 58th edition of Filo, entitled “Multifunctional wear: design and performance for a NextGen fashion”, was the occasion to present a clear example of collaboration between companies along the textile supply chain, in the search and development of new products. The protagonists were two leading companies in the world of textiles: Coatyarn and Südwolle Group. Here we report the talk led by Gianluigi Mazzoleni (CEO of Coatyarn) and Alessandro Dalla Pozza (Product Management Team, Südwolle Group Italia). It clearly shows the importance of collaboration to create garments that are attentive to sustainability and capable of combining style to performance, as new consumers demand.

CREATIVITY AND SUSTAINABILITY: THE NECESSARY DUO

The collaboration between Filo and Cittadellarte–Fondazione Pistoletto is long and strong, based on the research for a sustainability interpreted in its widest and most inclusive meaning. Among the protagonists of the ‘Dialoghi di Confronto’ of the 58th edition it is then obvious to find Cittadellarte-Fashion BEST, the operational workshop of Fondazione Pistoletto that since 2009 has been dedicated its activities to bio-ethical sustainability’s development in textile industry.
