During the 61st edition of Filo, “Sustainability from A to Z” – the information service for companies created in collaboration by CLASS and Filo – took the form of a real showcase on responsible innovation. As part of the “Dialoghi di Confronto” of the 61st edition of Filo, Luca Olivini, Material Manager of C.L.A.S.S therefore proposed concrete examples of sustainable textile production, in the talk “C.L.A.S.S. the pioneers of responsible innovation in the textile-fashion industry”.

LENZING AND THE VERSATILITY OF CELLULOSIC FIBERS

Cellulosic fibers are increasingly used in multiple applications: underwear, denim, shirts, sheets are the main sectors of use, but carpets and furnishing fabrics are also rediscovering cellulosic fibres. And in some cases, they are even a response to the request for plastic free packaging. Carlo Covini – Business Development Lenzing AG explained the great versatility of cellulosic fibers in a talk of the “Dialogues di Confronto” of the 61st edition of Filo.

The ZDHC platform provides valuable resources and guidance to help companies manage chemicals sustainably. There are many companies exhibiting at Filo engaged in ZDHC’s Supplier to Zero path and the platform has therefore decided to reserve special “awards” for those that have reached the Foundational or Progressive level. The certificates were delivered as part of the “Dialoghi di Confronto” of the 61st edition of Filo.

A PROJECT FOR ITALIAN HEMP

Hemp for textile use has an ancient tradition in Italy, but cultivation and use were abandoned for a long period. The fiber is now back in fashion thanks to initiatives such as that of Prototipo Studio, which promotes and coordinates an experimental spinning process of 100% Italian hemp. Carlo Mazzoni, director of Lampoon Magazine and partner of Prototipo Studio, explained in detail the objectives of the project as part of the Dialogues of Comparison of the 61st edition of Filo.

FRANCESCO FERRARIS PRESENTS THE “ACCADEMIA DEL COLORE”

In an ever-evolving textile industry, the issue of training new creative, competent and innovative talents is becoming increasingly urgent. The Accademia del Colore was born from this need, promoted by Finissaggio and Tintoria Ferraris and presented as a preview at the 61st edition of Filo by Francesco Ferraris, in the “Dialoghi di Confronto” talk in which he was the protagonist. The Accademia del Colore has already taken its first concrete steps and is promoted by Finissaggio and Tintoria Ferraris in collaboration with Randstad. It involves a first phase of direct training in collaboration with Accademia Piemonte for textiles, clothing, fashion and green jobs, of which Città Studi di Biella is the lead agency.

THE PHILOSOPHY OF COLOR BETWEEN CIRCULARITY AND INNOVATION

Color is a fundamental aspect not only in production processes, but also in its broader meaning, as an enigmatic and symbolic element that has influenced rituals, memory and human emotions over the centuries. Human, artistic and cultural reactions to colors are also reflected in the technological and scientific development of the textile sector. All this was discussed in the talk “By thread and by art: the philosophy of color between circularity and innovation”, led by Olga Pirazzi, head of the sustainable fashion office of Cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto; guests of the debate: Maria Canella, director of Accademia Unidee; Massimo Caiazzo, president of Iacc Italia; and Lia Luzzatto, professor at Accademia di comunicazione and Accademia del lusso in Milan.

The research to create innovative and creative coloring solutions, while at the same time committing to protecting the environment, gives rise to supply chain collaborations such as the one started by Tintoria Sala with Baroni Filati. As part of the “Dialoghi di Confronto” of the 60th edition of Filo, Alessio de Paoli (Tintoria Sala) and Stefano Targetti (Baroni Filati) spoke about the results of a long collaboration in the talk entitled: “Tradition and innovation, rediscovering colors with patented solutions. Personalized and sustainable fancy yarns”.

GIOTTOINDUSTRIAL NETWORKING: ANCIENT FIBERS FOR INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS

It is a very particular case history that Giottoindustrial Networking and Suspi proposed to the public of the 60th edition of Filo: the industrial group and the Swiss University were tasked by three large humanitarian organizations – ICRC, WFP and UNHCR – to find an alternative to polypropylene bags used for the distribution of food and other basic necessities to communities in serious difficulty. This particular experience was recounted by Clemente Bottani and Massimo Bergamasco of Giottoindustrial Networking SA and Anna Rita De Corso of Supsi (Professional University School of Italian Switzerland) in the Dialoghi di Confronto talk entitled: “Back to the future. The technical functionalization of ancient fibres”.
